Review Bike & Wine Tour in Margaret River

Get active and sip wine in Margaret River

After travelling comfortably in a aircon van with a group of 14 people I could not have asked for more than getting physically active and go on a bike and wine tour to experience Margaret River wineries from a different perspective.

On my third day I walked across the road to the meeting point at the Margaret River Tourist Office, where Tam of Dirty DeTours was waiting for me with 2 guests and 4 Bikes. Within a few minutes we were ready to hop onto our bikes and head off for a 18km bike ride around Margaret River.

Getting out of town in Margaret River is very easy, a large cycle path is built along the main road and it the ideal as it meanders through the green vegetation. As soon as you reach the outskirts you have to cycle on bitumen roads, but they are wide and safe. The roads follow the landscape countours, uphill and downhill, uphill and downhill.

OMG I was not so fit and quickly ran out of breath 🙂

What we did on our bike and wine tour in Margaret River

After the first 5km we reached the Watershed Winery. I had been there twice already in 2 days. It is definitely a beloved place by the locals and indeed it is hard not to fall in love with it. I was happy to go back as the atmosphere is very relaxed and it was good to add a bit more knowledge to what I had already learnt in the previous days. We continued our bike ride through beautiful stretches of countryside with vineyards peppered along the way.

Cape Mentelle Winery – Tasting Wine and  watching Movies on the vineyards

Our second stop was at Cape Mentelle. This winery has been producing excellent red wines for over 3 decades the founders count to the pioneers in the wine making business. This beautifully situated winery boasts the Movies in the Vineyard at Cape Mentelle during summer, vey popular event among the locals. We had a wine tasting in their barrel cellar. This place is very relaxing and we really enjoyed a break there to regain energy for the next leg of our bike and wine tour to our third destination.

Xanadu Winery – the innovative architecture and restaurant

This is another beautiful place with a lovely restaurant and cellar for wine tastings. The restaurant features a distinctive innovative architecture. After the pleasant stop at Xanadu Winery we were ready for the last work out of the day and hopped on to our bike again. On a gravel road crossing over the countryside, to the other end of Margaret River.

Stella Bella Cellar Door – The creative winery with distinctive wine names

This is a small winery with a garden to sit outside. The first thing that attracted me was the special and distinctive logo of the brand. A bunch of painted flowers We had a platter of delicious fresh produce to taste some wines and here. They have excellent white wines. Their range are also very creative, Serie Luminosa, Suckfizzles and Skuttelbutt are just a few of their ranges.

Our beautiful bike ride ended there. We did not have to ride back to town, as Tam fetched us with the van.

This 4hours bike and wine tour was very well balanced. It gave me the opportunity to see much of Margaret River while visiting 4 wineries located in the surrounds of Margart River, as well as do some wine tasting.
