Aboriginal people have lived in Australia for more than 50thousand years and are believed to be the world's oldest civilization. According to Aboriginal belief their spirit ancestors can connect the past with the present and future through each aspect of their lives. Expressions of this spiritual connections are referred to the "Dreamtime". You will hearing a lot about "Dreamtime stories" which are shown in rock art, craft and bark painting, songs, dances and in the land itself. If you are visiting outback areas, like the Arnhem Land or the Western regions I highly recommend to take an aboriginal guided tour; there are several of them to chose from. This will provide you with great insight in the aboriginal culture and its meaning for the Aborigines. Aboriginal Australians can help you understand this ancient land and its spirituality by showing you all aspects of their daily life from bush-tucker, craft spears, to catch fish in their traditional way. The best way to get to know the indigenous culture is heading to the outback to bushwalk and listen to their Dreamtime stories by the campfire.
